2010 (1984)

English The otherwise average director Peter Hyams has pleasantly surprised me. 2010 is a film with very good visual effects, an interesting story and a well executed final twist. But it should not be compared with Kubrick’s 2001, that one is a league of its own.

15 Minutes (2001)

English Robert De Niro shows his career is going downhill, because he is taking roles in increasingly mediocre films, and 15 Minutes is no exception. Karel Roden overacts with gusto and maintains a comfortable distance next to the awful Edward Burns.

The Specialist (1994)

English Yeah, the detonation scenes are interesting and dramatic, but the love story line is lifeless and Sly, narcissistically showing off his body at the gym, isn't at his best either. Luis Llosa can put together action scenes, but he is not so good that he can easily combine multiple genres.

Runaway Train (1985)

English I wouldn't expect this from Konchalovsky, a very good thriller with brilliant performances. B-movie king Eric Roberts could enjoy his only Oscar nomination.

Jurassic Park III (2001)

English Of the entire Jurassic Park series, ironically I had the most fun with the third one, maybe because I wasn’t expecting much. Yeah, it was shit, but it didn’t pretend to be anything else. It's fast-paced, the action scenes start a few minutes after the beginning and end with the closing credits. It’s just pop-corn entertainment as it should be. And the scene with the pterodactyls in the cage is a blast.

Hannibal (2001)

English Scott did his best, he just couldn't make more out of such a bad script. Jodie Foster knew very well why she wasn't up for it again. The only thing worth mentioning is that you will reliably NOT recognize Gary Oldman as the disfigured Mason Verger. His wife wanted to divorce him after he saw it!

The Fugitive (1993)

English Hands down, the best thriller of the 1990s. Andrew Davis, an otherwise mediocre director, must have been kissed by the muses for days while filming. Very well deserved six Oscar nominations.

Frankie and Johnny (1991)

English A wonderful love story that caresses the soul, makes you laugh and moves you, and an acting masterclass by Pacino and Pfeiffer.

Event Horizon (1997)

English It's a very bizarre disgusting thing, which is brilliantly filmed and probably won't make you feel very well. There aren't many films like this. I applaud Paul Anderson for always pushing the envelope hard, regardless of audience reaction, and not giving a damn about disgusting the average viewer. I wonder what the original unedited version, which is 40 minutes longer, looked like. It must have been cool.

The Edge (1997)

English It is a pity that our film distributors did not think of putting this film in our cinemas. The beautiful landscape of Alaska would look great on the big screen. The scene when Hopkins and Baldwin fight the grizzly bear is really great and very realistic.
