Biography

Andrei Konchalovsky (1937, Moscow, Soviet Union) is a theatre and film director and screenwriter who graduated from VGIK, the most prestigious Soviet fi lm school. His first feature film, Pervyy uchitel (1965), was nominated for Golden Lion at the Venice IFF. Since then, his films have collected awards at most prestigious international film festivals such as Cannes (Sibiriada in 1979), Berlinale (Istoriya Asi Klyachinoy, kotoraya lyubila, da ne vyshla zamuzh in 1988), Venice (Dom durakov in 2002) or San Sebastian (Dyadya Vanya in 1971, Homer and Eddie in 1989).
