Plots(1)

When San Francisco Detective Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones) is assigned to a grisly homicide case, a fingerprint leads her to a shocking suspect: an Alcatraz inmate who died over 30 years ago. Once the enigmatic, knows-everything-but-tells-nothing government agent Emerson Hauser (Sam Neill) tries to impede her investigation, Madsen turns to Alcatraz expert Dr. Diego “Doc” Soto (Jorge Garcia), to help her piece together the inexplicable sequence of events. By delving into Alcatraz history, government cover-ups and Rebecca’s own heritage, the team will ultimately discover that this reappearance is only a small part of a much larger, more sinister present-day threat. For while he may be the first, it quickly becomes clear that this fugitive won’t be the last to reappear from Alcatraz. (Warner Bros. AU)

English Season one: Abrams took his favorite ingredients from Lost and mixed them up into a slightly more traditional offering where we are introduced to a new murdering psychopath in each episode. Some are more memorable than others, but most important is the pretty well-cast team. The excellent Sam Neill acting is on a higher plane, and he’s given the room to do it. I was pleasantly surprised by Sarah Jones and, gone astray from Lost, Jorge Garcia isn’t any different here. The plot doesn’t thicken much until the finale, but it’s worth the wait. A gourmet chase around San Francisco with strong references to Bullitt. The final crucial secret and the ending beeeep had me moaning that damn! it’s the end again. What year is it? ()
