When Matt Groening created The Simpsons, he had only a yellow crayon. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the color yellow, but in this case I don't care because I've grown to love this crazy family over the many years of watching. The Simpsons has been running for nearly three decades now and the quality of the episodes and seasons has fluctuated, but it's something to be reckoned with. Each of the five completely different main characters has their own personal charm, but I still like Homer and his drunkenly clumsy escapades the best. What I particularly appreciate about The Simpsons is the script, which is often well thought out and, in addition to a large number of jokes, also have plenty of allusions to (not only) the period. The addition of the Halloween specials, guest stars and parodies of various films and TV shows are just icing on an already very tasty cake full of (black) humour, irony and satire. In short, high quality humour delivered in easily digestible twenty minute segments that I like to return to quite often - and who wouldn't love Homer desperately trying to put together a barbecue! ()
I don't see this yellow phantasmagoria regularly, but whenever I spend 30 minutes with the Simpsons family, my mood improves rapidly. Absolutely original humor, great characters and unforgettable plots. And yet it reflects reality so masterfully. Just an animated show with tremendous charisma... Homer Simpson and Co. became legends in their lifetime. Well, that's to make one burst out in anger! ()
The Simpsons is simply a classic TV show that I have watched since I was a little kid and that I still enjoy today after all these years. Sure, some may argue that the latest season is not as great as it used to be back in the day when the first seasons aired. However, I find it is still very good, and I still enjoy it. Plus, most of the characters are just great, and you just cannot help but love Homer, Mr. Burns, Moe, and many others or even kind of find yourself in some of the characters. So, for me, "Excellent!". 10/10 ()
I will go against the flow, I might be among the few, but I find the humour of The Simpsons so contrived and repetitive that their incredible popularity is one of humankind’s greatest mysteries for me. I never watch it myself, but I pretty often cross paths with it, unfortunately. Everyone around me is rolling on the floor laughing and I just don’t get it. I really don’t know. It’s a shame. ()
Growing up, hardly a day went by when I didn't see a bald Homer on TV with a remote in one hand and a can of beer in the other, a patient and caring Marge who didn't actually have blue hair, a mischievous Bart making fake phone calls to Moe, an intellectual Lisa refusing meat and any breaking of the rules, or little Maggie who was already so skilled with a gun. And there hasn't been a day that hasn't gone by when this yellow crew hasn't lifted my spirits and provided me with 20 minutes of the best and most effective humour that I would gladly lay down my life for. I love the humor, I love silly Homer, I love greedy Burns, I love Springfield, I love The Simpsons... Yeah, and I almost forgot: D'OH!! ()
