A Sound of Thunder (2005)

English A badly filmed "interesting" idea with horrendous special effects. If nothing else, A Sound of Thunder will make you laugh. But poor old Ray Bradbury - the filmmakers managed to destroy his short story of the same name. Peter Hyams is a putz.

The Bank Job (2008)

English An excellent crime movie that exceeded my expectations. The '70s are so convincing here and I was surprised at how easily I slipped into that era. Jason Statham is still a tough guy here and I’m not afraid to say it's one of his best movies. The performances are all above average, and Roger Donaldson leads them with a very experienced hand. In my opinion the screenplay has a lot of momentum given that it’s based on an actual event. If you like movies about burglaries and enjoy the old days, go for it.

50 First Dates (2004)

English Another great Sandler movie, probably my third this month and I’m still loving this kind of comedy. Plus, the theme isn’t completely standard and it’s good. Drew Barrymore is enchanting, Sean Astin is hilarious and in my opinion the walrus and the penguin should win the best animals award 2004.

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974)

English A fine thriller and, considering I wasn’t even on this earth when it was made, it’s still pretty modern. Of course I don’t mean in technical terms, but in the behavior of the characters. The minimal action was made up for with really good dialogs and black humor. And anyway, the whole idea of hijacking a subway train is pretty good and unusual. I’m quite looking forward to what Tony Scott does with this story in the remake he’s doing right now. I hope we aren’t robbed of the scene with Mr. Blue on the tracks at the end of the movie.

Cassandra's Dream (2007)

English I really don’t know Allen’s movies at all and I readily admit that I only watched Cassandra’s Dream for the choice cast. Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell are both perfect and anybody would believe they are brothers. I was a little surprised that it was Farrell who was the bigger chicken of the pair. The story isn’t at all complicated or overly psychological, but it’s a pleasantly unwinding drama about problems and their solutions. Maybe it hasn’t got all is needs for a clear 5, but thanks to the music by Phillip Glass I can go a bit higher.

Cleaner (2007)

English A pretty good watch with great actors in the main roles. Unfortunately, the screenwriters didn’t manage to exploit the theme properly. In fact, apart from a couple of scenes, this is a regular crime drama that contains only a couple of brighter passages and a couple of tips on cleaning stains. And I would have expected more action from Harlin.

The Lion King (1994)

English My favorite “new" Disney movie. It’s just got it all. A great story, lots of excellent jokes and amazing music by Hans Zimmer. When I first saw Lion King I can’t have been older than ten and its world totally swallowed me up. I even bought that sort of album that you stuck stickers into. It’s simply really powerful and I look forward to watching Simba and his crew again sometime. 100%

Goodfellas (1990)

English Martin Scorsese is simply an expert at this genre. It’s like he was born to make mafia movies. The traditionally super Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are joined by Ray Liotta possibly in his best role ever. And by the way, did any of you notice the young Samuel L. Jackson? :-D

We Own the Night (2007)

English A slightly above par police drama starring an excellent Joaquin Phoenix. The highlight of the film is an interesting car chase, but the finale is also very good.

Afro Samurai (2007) (series)

English A dark atmosphere, iconic images and a bloody trail to revenge. The animation is captivating, as is the story full of hate, betrayal and nicely matured one-liners from Samuel L. Jackson. The fight scenes are indescribable, the opponents better and better and each of them pushes the bar a little higher. 90%
